Artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly evolving technology that significantly impacts our lives. As AI becomes more sophisticated, it is natural for parents to be concerned about how it will affect their children. However, many myths about AI are circulating, and it is crucial to separate fact from fiction.
This blog post will debunk parents’ biggest myth about AI and how they can ensure their child doesn’t get left behind as technology advances.
So, if you are a parent concerned about AI, read on! We will help you to understand the truth about this powerful technology and how it can benefit your children.
What is AI?
The best way to explain what AI is without getting too technical is to explain what it is not. AI is not the new “Siri,” the popular virtual assistant in many phones. When you ask Siri a question, she (or he) will quickly search and pull up the results from different websites.
Instead, AI (also known as artificial intelligence) will process your question using the internet and program prediction models to regurgitate that information based on its understanding.
It’s like if you read a book about oceans, learned the information, and taught it to someone else. Unlike the human brain, which takes many hours of learning to predict information based on what it learned, AI can predict information in seconds.
This new technology is frightening to some, but I encourage those frightened to look at the possibilities. I imagine people were afraid when the first car was invented! And now almost every household has one! Technology takes time to adapt to society; the quicker you adapt, the easier your daily tasks become.
The biggest myth: AI is going to take your job
Suppose you have a job that requires little creativity, problem-solving, or human connection. In that case, that job isn’t very secure, with or without AI. Routinely filled jobs are less secure because they don’t require human interaction or special skills to perform them.
AI was created to free up your time from doing busy work. AI can automatically update spreadsheets, send out templated emails, data models, and more. This is so humans can focus on what we do best: creating. AI will not solve human problems that require a context of human emotions and communication skills. (Think about managers who solve internal and external issues) Instead, AI will file your routine paperwork. Hence, you have more time to interact with your employees, problem-solve with your department, and create solutions for your company.
AI is here to improve your job instead of taking it.
How AI is Going to affect your child
AI is going to become a massive part of your child’s future. AI chatboxes and technology programs are already used in online learning platforms and education systems. The best thing you can do for your child is to allow them to get comfortable with technology.
By the time your child is entering high school or college, there is a prediction that 80% of their classes and coursework will be online. Making sure your child is familiar with technology is a must. Those who are digitally literate will have a higher chance of success.
Digital literacy skills are knowing how to:
- Operate a digital meeting.
- Use an online search engine.
- Create helpful prompts for artificial intelligence models.
- Conduct online research to fulfill a project.
- Typing!
And so much more.
Make sure your child is familiar with online learning. Our online tutoring program will teach your child to improve reading and math while enhancing their digital literacy skills. We are not only preparing your child for the next grade but also the future.
Ensure your child is getting access to innovative technology, or they, too, will be left behind.
